Clocks Spring Forward as Recalls Tick On

Some recalls get lost in the mail.

During 2017, there were 813 new vehicle safety recalls affecting more than 30 million vehicles in the United States. The Safe Cars Save Lives from NHTSA says check for recalls at least twice a year – every March when setting clocks forward and every November when setting clocks back.

“Did you know that you don’t have to pay to fix safety recalls? “Please visit to find out if your car or truck has an outstanding recall, and call your dealership for your free repair,” said Heidi King, NHTSA Deputy Administrator.

Consumer Actions

  • Visit gov/Recalls to find out if your car or truck is under recall. Search using your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). Your search result will tell you if your car or truck is included in any safety recall at this time.
  • If your vehicle does have a recall, call your local dealer to schedule the free repair.
  • Sign up at gov/Alerts to be notified by e-mail if your vehicle is affected by a future recall.
  • Help spread the word to friends and family –
