Dodge Durango debuts for 2019 with five models – SXT, GT, Citadel, R/T and SRT. The 475-horsepower Durango SRT is claimed to be America’s fastest, most powerful and most capable three-row SUV. Well, it’s certainly faster and more expensive than the V6 powered Durango SXT where the all-wheel-drive system is optional on all models. The 2019 Dodge brand lineup now includes the Durango (~$30k-64k), Grand Caravan(~$27k-33k), Journey (~$24k-36k ), Charger (~$30k-70k) and Challenger (~$29k- 85k). This dangerously top heavy on trucks that are basically only saleable in North America. Dealers can now place orders for 2019 Dodge Durangos. Vehicles are scheduled to start arriving in Dodge dealerships this fall.
The big news – or how to milk a trend longer – is the new for 2019 Durango GT model, which continues with V6 fuel economy, but now shares the Durango SRT and R/T’s performance front fascia and LED fog lamps. That’s right a bold new grille. The SRT-like performance hood with center air inlet duct and two heat extractors is also available on Durango GT. Also new for 2019, Durango Citadel models get standard second-row captain’s chairs and Durango models equipped with the optional Trailer Tow Group now have an integrated trailer brake to use with its claimed best-in-class towing capability.
“The Durango is our three-row Charger of the SUV segment, delivering un-compromised utility, advanced technology, class-leading towing and driving range, confident driving dynamics and aggressive styling,” said Steve Beam, Head of Passenger Cars, Dodge//SRT, Chrysler and FIAT, FCA – North America.
“Customer demand for utility vehicles in the United States has exploded over the past decade, and with America’s fastest, most powerful and most capable three-row SUVs in our garage and the new updates for the 2019 model year, Dodge Durango continues to separate itself from the competition with the performance and capability that our customers demand,” Beahm boasted.
The 2019 Durango SRT is among America’s fastest, most powerful and most capable three-row SUVs with the venerable 392-cubic-inch HEMI V8 delivering 475 horsepower and 470 lb.-ft. of torque. This on a good day allows it to go from 0-60 miles per hour in 4.4 seconds, covering the quarter-mile in 12.9 seconds numbers certified by the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA). The hauling is better than every three-row full-size SUV on the road with a best-in-class towing capability of 8,700 pounds.
