Death of the Diesel: Daimler in US Agrees to Pay $1.5B for Noxious Diesel Emissions Fraud

For the settlements with the U.S. authorities, Daimler expects costs of approx. USD 1.5 billion* (€1.27 billion). The estimated cost of the class action settlement is ~$700 million (~ €592 million) including the court’s anticipated award of attorneys’ fees and costs. It appears that the Daimler has refrained from taking a legal action challenging the fine notice because senior executives are not implicated. The public prosecutor’s administrative offense proceeding against Daimler AG is thereby fully concluded. This is not so at Volkswagen Group where senior executives were indicted today. Dieselgate Spin Says Modern Diesels Emit Low Emissions

What’s missing of course are older generation designs which are being re-calibrated or shipped elsewhere or cancelled. Testing here by the German automakers association (ADAC) that the best-performing RDE-compliant Euro 6 diesels emit as much as 95-99% less NOx than the older Euro 5 vehicles.
